Googoo from Saket and Rambabu from Yusuf Sarai became the finalists in an unusual Delhi popularity contest. Business Today reported on September 29, 2026 that the Instagram account @fatdogsofdelhi had brought a field of 64 contenders down to the final pair through rounds of voting.
The contest's “fattest dog” framing helped it travel online. This article does not name a winner, assign weights to the finalists or assume that either dog has a particular medical condition. Those claims require evidence beyond a contest preview and photographs.
Familiar faces become neighbourhood characters
Part of the appeal is easy to understand. A dog seen outside a shop or along a regular walking route can become a small point of connection between strangers. Giving that familiar animal a name and a place in a light-hearted poll makes the connection visible.
Attention can be useful when it leads to coordinated care. It can be less useful when many admirers independently provide food without knowing what the dog already receives. A comment section does not replace communication between the people who see the animal every day.
Affection is not measured in portions
A popularity contest should not encourage people to increase an animal's size for photographs or votes. Body condition is a matter for appropriate assessment, not a compliment or an insult. A dog's appearance in one image also cannot reveal its full health history.
People who want to help can ask established local carers what is actually needed. That may mean clean water, a dependable feeding arrangement, help reaching a veterinarian or support for an identified welfare organisation. Bringing extra treats is only one possible action, and it may not be the right one.
Keep the animal's routine in view
Avoid crowding a dog for selfies or waking it to obtain a reaction. Allow space to move away, and do not put children close to an unfamiliar animal for a photograph.
Googoo and Rambabu's online following reflects how strongly people can attach themselves to neighbourhood dogs. The lasting value of that attention depends on what follows the vote: patient, coordinated care that fits the animal rather than the format of a social-media competition.
