Jess Gary was reunited with her fifteen-year-old Chihuahua mix, Fidel, after a search through Brooklyn in June 2019. ABC7 reported the reunion on July 1, with an account from Gary of the disappearance and recovery.
She said Fidel vanished during off-leash hours in Prospect Park. After posters, social-media appeals and a tip, she and friends spotted him being walked by a woman. Her friends retrieved the dog. The woman said she had found him; a man accompanying her tried to get him back and, Gary said, struck their car windows with a skateboard.
The station reported that the people involved were not identified. That leaves an important distinction: finding Fidel with someone did not establish who originally removed him from the park.
A reunion, not a model for confrontation
The outcome was the one Gary had wanted—her dog was home. The encounter was also volatile. A retelling should not turn it into a recommendation to confront strangers or seize an animal without help. The original report describes what these people said happened, not a generally safe procedure.
Dates matter here too. This was a 2019 incident, despite later reposts that make it sound recent. The public account does not provide a subsequent criminal outcome, and none should be invented to give the story a cleaner finish.
What remains is a recognisable account of someone searching for an older companion and finally seeing him again. The relief needs no extra certainty about unidentified people. Keeping that boundary intact makes the reunion a more accurate story.
