Julie Stayed Near Her Owner After a Fatal Trek at Rajgad Fort

A dog named Julie remained near her owner after he collapsed during a trek at Rajgad Fort near Pune. As people brought his body down the hill, she continued alongside them, according to reporting published by NDTV in October 2026.

The owner, Jignesh Sadashiv Khandalkar, had been walking with companions on October 10. Reports described attempts to help him and his subsequent transfer down the mountain. This article does not establish a medical cause of death or speculate about what might have prevented it.

Julie's presence became the focus of widely shared footage. The observable part of the story is enough: she stayed close during a distressing and unfamiliar situation. There is no need to claim certainty about everything she understood or felt.

A companion also needs someone responsible

When a person becomes seriously ill or dies away from home, their dog may suddenly have no familiar handler. The emergency response understandably centres on the person, but the animal still needs safe transport, water, supervision and contact with someone who knows their care.

Families can make that task easier by keeping a trusted contact available in a phone and with identification details. If a dog has medication, a particular handling concern or a tendency to escape when frightened, that information should be easy for another person to find.

Tell the story with restraint

A short clip cannot provide a complete account of a death, a dog's emotional state or what happened after filming ended. Sharing graphic images or inventing an imagined farewell adds little to the facts and may intrude on the family involved.

Julie's story can be acknowledged without doing that. It shows a dog remaining beside a familiar person while others carried out difficult work. The practical responsibility falls to the people around her: ensuring that her immediate safety and continuing care are part of what happens next.

That continuing care may be less visible than the moment on the mountain, but it is the part a bereaved household and its supporters can actually arrange.
